Individualized Career & Academic Plan (ICAP)
The ICAP is a personalized plan through which students define their postsecondary and career goals. Students participate in counselor-led guidance curriculum to develop a plan to prepare them for high school, college and the workforce.
From Process to Plan
Students participate in developmentally appropriate activities to support:
Academic success
- Knowledge of how to be a successful student
- Development of organizational and study skills
- Confidence in dealing with peer pressure
College readiness
- Understand what “postsecondary” is and why it is important
- Recognition of how to act now to become college-ready
Career planning
- Understand the difference between a job and a career
- Awareness of changing careers in a global society
- Appreciation of how interest and skills impact career options

Individualized Career & Academic Plan (ICAP) in Jeffco
The Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) is a multi-year process that intentionally guides students and families in the exploration of career, academic and college opportunities. With the support of adults, students develop the awareness, knowledge, attitudes and skills to create their own meaningful and powerful pathways to be career and college-ready.
When students complete a meaningful ICAP process, they:
- Connect the relevance of education to future aspirations.
- Are more motivated to attend school and stay engaged.
- Become confident learners who can actively set goals.
- Make secondary and postsecondary course plans to pursue career and life goals.
- Are able to articulate their transferable skills and apply knowledge about how their actions today connect with their goals.

SchooLinks is a comprehensive college and career readiness platform used by middle and high school students to plan for their futures. It streamlines planning, allowing students to explore careers, access work-based learning opportunities, research over 5,000 colleges, manage application documents like transcripts and recommendations, and track their Individual Career and Academic Plan.
